Dorel Juvenile Canada has decided that all Maxi-Cosi Coral XP and Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max rear facing infant car seats and Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base models with self-retracting universal anchorage system (UAS) fail to conform to the provisions of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) No. 213 “Child Restraint Systems”.

Issue:

The lower universal anchorage system (UAS) used to attach the seat base could fail. If this happens, the seat could detach in a crash. There have been no injuries reported related to this issue.

Safety Risk:

An infant seat that detaches in a crash creates an increased risk of injury.

Maxi-Cosi Coral XP

Models: 22304CFNA, 22304CFNB, 22304CFNC, 22304CFND

Maxi-Cosi Coral XP Base

Models: 22524CBLK

Maxi-Cosi Mixo XP Max

Models: 22321CFNA, 222321CFJB, 22321CFNB

Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Base

Models: 22526CBLK

One of the affected models, Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max 22321CFNA was also included as part of a Travel System, model 01371CFNA Lila CP Travel system.

The model numbers of the restraint systems can be found on a date of manufacture label located on the shell of the car seat:

Remedy:

Dorel will mail a notice to all registered owners with instruction not to install the infant seat base using the lower universal anchorage system (UAS) connectors. Dorel advises that you may continue to use the seat with the base, or with the shell only, if you install it using the vehicle seat belt.

You should contact Dorel Juvenile Canada to obtain a free replacement base, which the company will provide once it’s available.
